DC Offers Big Name Acts Year-Round
The Dassel-Cokato Performing Arts Center is abuzz year-round not only with school and community events, but with big city entertainment as well.
The 800-seat air-conditioned auditorium is located on the DC high school and middle school campus. The state-of-the art sound and light equipment gives a professional theatre atmosphere without the cost.
Many of the events are hosted by the Dassel-Cokato Arts Association, a nonprofit organization created to support fine arts around the area and bring quality entertainment to the DC community. For a nominal tax-deductable donation, a person can join the arts association and enjoy the benefits of purchasing advanced tickets, attending special member receptions, having voting privileges at annual meetings, and other “members only” opportunities.
Mostly recently, the arts association hosted Mark Schultz, Collective Unconscious, singing songs from The Beach Boys “Pet Sounds” album; The Concordia College Band, and Lorie Line. Since the PAC’s inaugural year in 2005, there have been three sold out performances including Schultz, “Songs From the Tall Grass,” Line, and the Minnesota Orchestra.
Each year, the arts association brings in an educational component. This year, the elementary schools took part in a week-long residency and a free performance of The Children’s Theatre Company’s “If You Give a Mouse a Cookie.”
Entertainment tentatively scheduled for the 2008-09 season includes the return of the Minnesota Orchestra for its third visit, two community theatre productions, the musical theatre production of “Church Basement Ladies,” the Barbary Coast Dixieland Show Band, Tonic Sol-fa, and more.
